I-17 Closure & Detour
Northbound I-17 will be closed between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 from 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24. The following ramps also will be closed:
The northbound I-17 on-ramps at Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads
Westbound SR 74/Carefree Highway at I-17 will be narrowed to one lane from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23
DETOUR: Northbound drivers should use westbound Happy Valley Road to northbound Lake Pleasant Parkway to eastbound Loop 303 to connect with I-17 beyond the closure.
Loop 101 Lane Restrictions
The following ramps will be closed from 11:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22:
The Loop 101 eastbound on-ramp at 59th Avenue
Detour: Drivers may use Union Hills Drive to enter the freeway at 51st Avenue.The Loop 101 eastbound off-ramp at 51st Avenue
Detour: Drivers may exit at 59th Avenue and use Union Hills Drive to reach 51st Avenue
ONGOING RESTRICTIONS: Lane restrictions are ongoing at the following locations for bridge work and frontage road improvements.At the 51st and 35th avenue interchanges:
All on- and off-ramps will be narrowed to one lane The left-turn lane for both east- and westbound on-ramps will be narrowed to one lane 51st and 35th avenues will be narrowed to one lane under Loop 101 At the 31st Avenue interchange:
The 31st Avenue shoulders will be closed under Loop 101. Pedestrian access is still available. Frontage roads:
The east- and westbound frontage roads (Beardsley Road) will be narrowed to one lane throughout the project area. The frontage road improvements are expected to be completed in early- to mid-March 2025. (link)
Glendale water rates are going up
Your water & sewer bill will be about $10 higher in October. The City of Glendale has announced increases in rates for water & sewer, plus a storm water fee of $3 per month. (link)
Glendale water development fees are going up, too
In an effort to offset the cost of increased infrastructure costs needed to address growth in the City of Glendale, water development impact fees are increasing. (link)

Gas prices keep rising
Average gas prices jumped over $.30 per gallon in Arizona last week, outpacing the national averages. What is causing the increase, and will prices go back down anytime soon? (link)
Library Card Design Contest
The City of Glendale is hosting a contest for designs of its new library cards. Design submissions are being accepted until March 15th, in three categories, youth (5-11), teen (12-18) and adult (19+). Click the link for an entry form. (link)

Seven Brothers Burgers

A new burger chain is expanding to Arizona. Seven Brothers Burgers is opening two locations in Phoenix, and one is located at 83rd Ave & Happy Valley. Check out there menu in the link. (link)

Spring Training is here!
This beautiful weather means one thing for the Valley…spring training season. Games are already underway, and ABC 15 has put together a comprehensive guide for the entire Cactus League. (link) Here are the details for spring training at the Peoria Sports Complex. (link)
Harlem Globetrotters
The Harlem Globetrotters will be playing the Washington Generals & putting on their show at Desert Diamond Area tonight at 7pm. (link)
15th Annual Dog Days of Glendale
Head down to the Historic Downtown for the Dog Days of Glendale on Saturday, February 22nd from 9am-1pm at the Glendale Landmark School. (link)
Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show
This weekend is the final days of the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show at Westworld. This is a fun event to experience in person, or you can watch online for free. (Livestream)(Event info)

Learn to camp
Registration is open for spring sessions of the Arizona State Family Campout program. Learn the basics of camping and outdoor recreation. The first campout will be held on March 7-9th, at the Alamo Lake State Park. (link)
Pro Wrestling event
After hosting an event in Glendale Wednesday night, AEW has announced they’ll be returning for another ‘Double or Nothing’ wrestling pay-per-view pro wrestling event AEW on May 25th at Desert Diamond Arena at WestGate. (link)

20th Annual Polish Festival
Celebrate Poland's rich culture, delicious food, and vibrant traditions at the Special Jubilee Event. Admission is free and the festival will be held on February 22nd from 10am-8pm, and February 23rd from 10am-4pm. (link)

State fairgrounds rummage sale
Junior League of Phoenix is hosting the 88th Annual Rummage sale on February 22nd from 8am-4pm at the State Fairgrounds. If you’re a thrifter, this is a great way to find deals on second hand goods. (link)
The History & Culture of the Tohono O’odham
The Foothills Library is hosting an event by Dr. Jacelle Ramon-Sauberan, discussing the Tohono O'odham and their history rooted in their connection to the desert. (link)

NEIGHBORHOOD HIGHLIGHT
If you are not familiar, the City of Glendale has some excellent facilities right here in Arrowhead Ranch, which include a library, a dog park, a recreation center with pools and pickle ball courts & a skate park.
Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center

Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center (FRAC) is a full-service, recreation and aquatics center serving the Glendale community. The center provides educational, recreational, fitness and social activities through classes, special events and ongoing center activities.
This facility includes a full size gym for basketball, badminton & pickle ball. They offer aerobic & fitness classes, plus there is an indoor walking & jogging track and a rockwall. You can also use the fitness center with many strength training options. The Aquatics Center has 2 giant slides, a kiddie slide, a zero depth entry leisure pool with spray features, a water playground, a lazy river, diving wells with 2 diving boards and 6 lap lanes, and a snack bar.
