Loop 101 Project closures & restrictions

Valley Road or south to eastbound Union Hills Drive to connect with I-17.

LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURE MAY 13

The westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 35th Avenue will be closed for approximately 60 days starting at 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 13.

DETOUR: Drivers may use on-ramps at 27th or 51st avenues to access westbound Loop 101.

OVERNIGHT CLOSURES MAY 12-14

The Loop 101 high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes will be closed in both directions between 19th and 27th avenues from 10 p.m. Monday, May 12, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, for median work.

The following will be closed from 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 14:

The westbound frontage road (Beardsley Road) will be closed between 35th and 51st avenues

The westbound Loop 101 off-ramp at 51st Avenue

WEEKEND LOOP 101 CLOSURE (MAY 16-19)

Eastbound Loop 101 will be CLOSED between 59th Avenue and I-17 from 10 p.m. Friday, May 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 19.

DETOUR: Drivers may use Union Hills Drive or Bell Road as alternate routes

The eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Union Hills Drive, 75th and 67th avenues also will be closed.

The westbound Loop 101 HOV lane between I-17 and 59th Avenue also will be closed during this time.

ONGOING RESTRICTIONS

Lane restrictions are ongoing at the following locations for bridge work and frontage road improvements.

At the 51st and 35th avenue interchanges:

All on- and off-ramps will be narrowed to one lane

The left-turn lane for both east- and westbound on-ramps will be narrowed to one lane

51st and 35th avenues will be narrowed to one lane under Loop 101

At the 31st Avenue interchange:

The 31st Avenue shoulders will be closed under Loop 101. Pedestrian access is still available.

I-17 Flex Lanes

If you’re heading north this next week, now through May 10th, be prepared to use some of the new ‘flex lanes’ constructed as part of the ongoing I-17 improvement project.

Northbound traffic has been shifted into the two newly constructed flex lanes that run adjacent to the two existing southbound lanes of I-17. This temporary traffic shift is necessary while crews complete work on the existing northbound general purpose lanes between Coldwater Road and Sunset Point. The newly constructed lanes are not yet operating as “flex lanes.” The two flex lanes will be used only as a detour route to move northbound I-17 traffic while the two existing northbound general purpose lanes are closed for ongoing work.

Spencer’s Appliances

Lots of progress at the former Ethan Allen property on Bell Road, the new home to Spencer’s Appliances.

Bull King Steakhouse

A new steakhouse is coming to the space formerly occupied by Tierra Mia. Bull King Steakhouse is under construction and an opening date is unknown at this point. (map)

Andretti Karting is now open in WestGate

The Andretti Indoor Karting & Games has opened their location in Glendale, just north of Top Golf in the WestGate area. Their karting track is supposed to be legendary, I’m excited to give it a shot soon. (link)

ARIZONA TRIVIA

Last week’s trivia question was, ‘What famous Sinagua Native American Cliff dwelling is located in the Verde Valley?’ The correct answer: Montezuma Castle.

Montezuma Castle National Monument protects a set of well-preserved dwellings located in Camp Verde, Arizona, which were built and used by the Sinagua people, a pre-Columbian culture closely related to the Hohokam and other indigenous peoples of the southwestern United States, between approximately AD 1100 and 1425. The main structure comprises five stories and about 20 rooms and was built over the course of three centuries. (link)

Do you live in Peoria? Have old paint cans and chemicals you don’t want? Now is your chance to have them picked up by the City of Peoria. You have to make an appointment, and pick ups end on May 16th, so be sure and schedule your appointment asap. (link)

Unfortunately for Glendale residents, the next City pick up dates are not until the Fall.
