Mountain lion reports in North Peoria

It is that time of year when you have to be aware of snakes while out hiking in the desert or mountains. Evidently there have been reports by residents of a mountain lion in North Peoria. The article, which is only available to prescribers, didnt mention an exact location. If you want to learn more about what to do if you encounter a mountain lion, Arizona Game & Fish has a great resource available. (link)

Loop 101 Project closures & restrictions

ONGOING RESTRICTIONS

Lane restrictions are ongoing at the following locations for bridge work and frontage road improvements.

At the 51st and 35th avenue interchanges:

All on- and off-ramps will be narrowed to one lane The left-turn lane for both east- and westbound on-ramps will be narrowed to one lane 51st and 35th avenues will be narrowed to one lane under Loop 101 At the 31st Avenue interchange:

The 31st Avenue shoulders will be closed under Loop 101. Pedestrian access is still available. Frontage roads:

Much of the work on the frontage roads was completed in March 2025. Short-term periodic restrictions on the frontage roads may be needed in the future.

Community garage sales

It is a very busy weekend for community garage sales in & around Arrowhead Ranch.

Sierra Verde Phase V will have an award winning BBQ food truck from 10AM-2PM at the common green space that is just north of Sierra Verde Elementary.
(Rose Garden and 72nd Dr).

☂️🪑🌞Bring your own chairs and picnic blankets. It will be a great way to spend your earnings and possibly bring some items that you couldn't sell.

Several nearby communities to the west of Arrowhead Ranch are also having community garage sales this weekend.

ARIZONA TRIVIA

Last week’s trivia question was, ‘What was James Addison Reavis better known as?’ The correct answer The Baron of Arizona.

James Reavis, was most known in association with the Peralta land grant, also known as the Barony of Arizona, a pair of fraudulent land claims, which if certified, would have granted him ownership of over 18,600 square miles of land in central Arizona Territory and western New Mexico Territory. During the course of the fraud, Reavis collected an estimated US$5.3 million in cash and promissory notes ($200 million in present-day terms) through the sale of quitclaims and proposed investment plans. Peoria Family Movie Night

Glendale Rec on Wheels

With this FREE program, Glendale’s Parks and Recreation Department staff brings chess sets, LEGO tables with building blocks, flag football equipment, cornhole sets, baseball bases, basketballs, soccer nets and other playful gear to parks that are a short walk or drive from many local schools. Children can also play large Connect 4 and Jenga games in the parks. Events on multiple dates through April 30th. (link)
