Saturday evening had quite the sunset, some of the most unique clouds & lighting I’ve seen all summer. It led to a nice storm in the early hours of the morning and it sure sounded like we got more than .28” of rain.

It is happening, we’re starting to see the first bit of ‘not awful’ temps in the forecast. We’ll see if the forecast holds true…

Glendale passes new short term rental ordinance

The Glendale City Council passed several ordinances at its latest meeting, including a new fee for solid waste pick up, harsher penalties for short-term rentals and the sale of bonds worth tens of millions of dollars for numerous city projects.

The new rules require short term rental owners to notify their neighbors as well as providing emergency contact info to the City. (link)

TRAFFIC ALERT: Another Candidate Rally on Friday

Former President Trump is attending a rally at the Desert Diamond Arena at 4pm on Friday August 23rd. Be mindful of potential traffic issues if you need to use the Loop 101 or I-10 Friday afternoon or evening.

Whatever happened to the Fry’s Electronics building?

The distinct Aztec styled property has been vacant for many years, but the old Fry’s Electronics building will be getting a new owner and a new tenant: the Phoenix Police. (link)

Peoria asking residents what businesses it prefers

The City of Peoria is following the lead of Mesa & Surprise, and is asking its residents for their retail, restaurants & entertainment preferences. The survey is open until September 15, 2024. (link)

EVENTS

Peoria debuts its new helicopter

Peoria is hosting a ribbon-cutting event on Tuesday to celebrate the creation of a public safety aviation unit and unveil its first aircraft. (link)

Data center coming to Buckeye

A $20 billion master-planned data center complex is moving forward after securing the go-ahead from the City of Buckeye. (link)

Arizona to have less water from Colorado River in 2025

Just as in 2024, the State of Arizona has agreed to accept 18% less water from its 2025 allocation from the Colorado River. (link)
