School begins this week

All of the schools located in Arrowhead Ranch are back in session beginning on August 1st. Please be mindful when driving in the neighborhoods in the morning and afternoons.

New football coach at Mountain Ridge

Mountain Ridge High School has it’s third head football coach in three seasons, and new coach Andy Johnson hopes to bring winning culture with him from his previous program. (link)

Bulk trash pick up

The City of Glendale bulk trash pick up begins on Monday, August 5th, you may place items at the curb beginning on Thursday, August 1st. (link)

Traffic alert for Wednesday

GOP VP candidate JD Vance will be at an event on Wednesday, July 31st at the Arizona Christian University Center at 59th Avenue & Greenway Road. The event begins at 6pm, prepare for traffic delays & detours if you will be in this part of town. (link)

Phoenix Children’s Hospital to open in Arrowhead

The Arrowhead Ranch Campus of Phoenix Children’s Hospital is scheduled to be open for patients on August 7th. (link)

DVUSD Teacher Wins Aware for Historical Fiction Novel

Highland Lakes ELA teacher Jennifer Deibel takes first place in the Selah Awards for historical romance.

Deer Valley School District middle school teacher Jennifer Deibel took home first place for the historical romance division of the Selah Awards this summer. The winning novel is her Irish romance The Maid of Ballymacool, a retelling of the Cinderella story with a hint of mystery. 

Jennifer is an alum of the Deer Valley school district and spent a decade living in Ireland before returning to teach ELA to Glendale students. Jennifer will be releasing her fifth Irish romance novel, The Heart of the Glen, in January of 2025. (link)

Lunatics Mexican Cantina set to open

Long time Valley favorite Mexican restaurant Valle Luna is opening their newest location at 67th Ave & Happy Valley Road. Lunatics Mexican Cantina will host their grand opening on August 1st. (map)

EVENTS

Summer movie camp at AMC Theaters

AMC Theaters is offering $3 movies as part of their Summer Movie Camp promotion. Various movies by Illumination Studios are showing now through mid-August. (link)

Amkor Technologies set to receive $600 million

The Tempe based Amkor Technologies has reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce which paves the way for them to receive up to $600 million in grants & loans for their planned facility in Peoria, Arizona. This new facility is expected to create 2,000 full-time jobs, plus thousands more construction jobs. (link)
