WEATHER WATCH

If you’re like me, you get in the routine of assuming its going to be hot as blazes everyday this time of year and maybe you don’t check the forecast as often.

Strangely enough, there is some sort of cold front coming through this weekend and it won’t be 147° like it has been the past couple weeks.

Arrowhead Porsche breaks ground on new dealership on Bell Road

The vacant land next door to Arrowhead Cadillac & Carvana is finally under construction and is set to be the new home of Arrowhead Porsche. (map)

A Fantasy 5 Jackpot wining ticket was sold on July 3rd.

The ticket valued at $179,000 was purchased at a Chevron gas station located near 43rd Avenue and Union Hills Drive. (link)

Wendy’s is now open.

After demolishing the old facility and starting from scratch, the new Wendy’s location at 59th Ave & Bell Road is open again. (map)

Pints for Teachers Fundraiser

The Spot Neighborhood Grill is hosting their 3rd Annual Pints for Teachers fundraising event this July, which includes their new location here in Glendale at 53rd Avenue & Bell Road.

$1 from every pint of Four Peaks draft beer sold goes towards helping local teachers. (link & map)

Dbacks Star Wars Night & Stormtrooper Bobblehead Giveaway

If you follow the Arizona Diamondbacks at all, you know about pina power and the purple hair of Lourdes Gurriel, Jr.

Christmas in July in Downtown Glendale

Businesses in Downtown Glendale are hosting their annual Christmas in July event & fundraiser, collecting supplies for the Glendale Elementary School District. July 13th, 10am-4pm. Find out more at VisitDowntownGlendale.com

Maricopa County Home Show

This weekend, July 12th-14th, Maricopa County Home Show’s is hosting their largest event of the year at State Farm Stadium. The event is indoors and air-conditioned, enjoy all the home show has to offer, plus get out of the heat. (link)

• Beat the heat by celebrating the Christmas in July Food Drive at the Organ Stop Pizza in Mesa, home to the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. They are helping to distract from the heat, while supporting the United Food Bank. Support the food drive & get a 10% discount.

  If you have never been to Organ Stop Pizza, it is quite an experience and worth the trip.

• Governor Katie Hobbs has signed House Bill 2325, which prevents a city from making an ordinance that bans backyard chickens at a single-family home. The bill allows residents to have up to six chickens in their backyard.

  Be sure and check with your HOA, as their rules may supercede this new bill. (link)

• A Phoenix chef has won on Food Network Channel’s show Chopped. This is Derek Christensen’s second TV win, as he also won an episode of Cutthroat Kitchen in 2015. (link)
