COMMUNITY NEWS

‘Founder of new Glendale’ has passed

Former Glendale council member and prominent business owner Tom Eggleston, passed away in March. Eggleston was instrumental in supporting Downtown Glendale, as well as helping in the creation of Westgate, State Farm Stadium & the Arrowhead Towne Center. (link)

Loop 101 Project closures & restrictions

Upcoming overnight closures. (link)

  • UPDATED: The eastbound Loop 101 off-ramps at 51st and 35th avenues will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 4 to 5 a.m. Saturday, April 5.

ONGOING RESTRICTIONS

Lane restrictions are ongoing at the following locations for bridge work and frontage road improvements.

At the 51st and 35th avenue interchanges:

  • All on- and off-ramps will be narrowed to one lane

  • The left-turn lane for both east- and westbound on-ramps will be narrowed to one lane

  • 51st and 35th avenues will be narrowed to one lane under Loop 101 

At the 31st Avenue interchange:

  • The 31st Avenue shoulders will be closed under Loop 101. Pedestrian access is still available. 

Frontage roads:

Much of the work on the frontage roads was completed in March 2025. Short-term periodic restrictions on the frontage roads may be needed in the future

New BBQ restaurant coming to Peoria

The Peoria City Council and Mayor Beck joined Caldwell County Barbecue to break ground on their first West Valley location—coming to Downtown Peoria!

This 6,000+ square-foot restaurant, located on Washington Street between 83rd Avenue and 83rd Drive, is a key part of the city's strategic revitalization efforts. This city-owned property will help fuel Peoria’s growing economic development while serving up some mouthwatering Texas-style BBQ (with an Arizona twist). (link)

Hike for Hope

The 12th annual Hike for Hope, Riding the Waves of Grief, benefiting Billy’s Place will be 8 a.m. Saturday, April 5. The hike is an opportunity for everyone to hike in honor of a loved one they have lost. (link)

25th Annual Arizona VisionWalk

Head out this Saturday and be a part of 25th Annual Arizona VisionWalk on April 5th to raise $107,000 to fund groundbreaking research in gene therapy, stem cells, and pharmaceutical treatments, all with the goal of restoring and preserving sight. (link)

Glendale Rec on Wheels

With this FREE program, Glendale’s Parks and Recreation Department staff brings chess sets, LEGO tables with building blocks, flag football equipment, cornhole sets, baseball bases, basketballs, soccer nets and other playful gear to parks that are a short walk or drive from many local schools. Children can also play large Connect 4 and Jenga games in the parks. Events begin on April 8th. (link)

Get ready for rides, fried food, baby animals, and non-stop entertainment at the Maricopa County Fair - happening this April at the Fairgrounds! (link)

Glendale Family Bike Ride

The City of Glendale is hosting the Family Bike Ride at 8 a.m. on April 6 in Sahuaro Ranch Park, on the corner of 59th Avenue and Mountain View Road. Riders can choose from three routes: short (7 miles), long (15 miles) or extended (23 miles), and refuel on snacks and water provided along the journey. (link)
