Another Loop 101 closure & is it time to hoard toilet paper...again?

Another week of record heat, with no relief for the weekend, plus another closure on the Loop 101.

Loop 101 weekend closure

• Westbound Loop 101 will be closed between 51st and 75th avenues starting 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, and ending 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7.

  • The westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 35th Avenue also will be closed.

  • The interchange ramps from north- and southbound I-17 also will be closed.

• Detour:  Drivers can use westbound Union Hills Drive or the westbound frontage road (Beardsley Road). Drivers on I-17 may also use Bell Road or Union Hills Drive to reach destinations west of I-17.

New Chief Happiness Officer at Arrowhead Hospital

If you find yourself at Abrazo Arrowhead Hospital on a Friday, you may get a visit from a new staff member. Alex, will be doing his best to boost morale. (link)

Stop panic buying toilet paper

Lots of stories out there of local big box stores being out of toilet paper, due to concerns of the ongoing strike by longshoreman workers. No need to worry, most paper goods are manufactured in the U.S. and are not affected. (link)

EVENTS

Halloween events at Foothills Recreation Center

The Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center will be hosting three Halloween-inspired evening activities. Available for all ages, the city invites residents out for fun and festive events within the community, which begin on October 9th.(link)

PBR Ridge Rider Days

Desert Diamond Arena is hosting the PBR event this weekend. (link)

Monster Jam

Monster trucks return to State Farm Stadium this Saturday, October 5th. A full day of festivities is planned. (link)

After having a great lunch at Hawaiian Bros a few weeks back, I’ve had Ono Hawaiian BBQ on the brain and I had hoped to get by again this lunch to see how it compared. I wasn’t able to visit, so here is a look back at my review from when they first opened this location. (link & map)
